Ingredients
  

  • 250 gram Tomato

For crushing the spices

  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp coriander seeds
  • 2 garlic cloves

for making rasam

  • 1 tbsp oil
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 green chilly
  • A pinch Asafoetida
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • salt to taste

Instructions
 

Steam cook and grind the tomato:

  • Firstly wash the tomatoes, slit using a knife at the backside of the tomato
  • Steam cook for 5 minutes
  • Cool it down
  • remove the skin
  • Blend it into smooth paste

Crush the spices:

  • Add coriander seeds, cumin, black pepper into a mortar, grind it into a coarse powder, then add garlic cloves, crush it with other spices. collect it from the mortar, keep aside

For making Rasam

  • Heat the oil in pan, splutter mustard seeds. Add curry leaves, green chilly, a pinch of asafoetida
  • Pour the ground paste
  • Add the crushed spices(cumin, black pepper, coriander seeds, garlic)
  • mix well, Add some salt
  • Pour 2 cups of water, heat it in medium flame
  • when it starts boiling, add sugar. turn off the flame, garnish with coriander leaves
