Method
Cooking Thor dal:
- Firstly, take 1/2 cup of rinsed thor dal in a pressure cooker, pour in 2 cups of water
- pressure cook for 7 whistles in medium flame
- After pressure released, open the lid, keep aside for later use
Chopping the Ridge gourd:
- Firstly, peel off the ridges of ridge gourd and discard
- Then peel off the skin, (we can reserve this skin for making chutney)
- chop the ridge gourd into cubes.
Making Ridge gourd Dal:
- Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan, splutter 1 tsp of mustard seeds, and cumin seeds. Add in dry red chilly and green chilly, curry leaves, garlic cloves, shallots. saute well
- Next, add chopped ridge gourd, salt, saute well
- And then add 1 tsp of coriander powder and 1 tsp of chilly powder, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, just mix for 30 seconds in low flame
- next add 1 tomato chopped, mix well, cover and cook for 5 minutes
- then add cooked dal and mix well
- bring into boil, boil it for few minutes
- and then turn off the flame, add coriander leaves.
- Serve with rice with ghee.(and also with rotis too)
