Ingredients
  

  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 2 dry red chilly
  • 2 green chilly
  • few curry leaves
  • 4 garlic cloves
  • 5 shallots
  • 1 tomato(chopped) (small-sized)
  • 1 ridge gourd (peeled, chopped)
  • 1 tsp red chilly powder
  • 1 tsp coriander powder
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ cup thor dal (cooked)
  • coriander leaves for garnish
  • 1 tbsp ghee

Instructions
 

Cooking Thor dal:

  • Firstly, take 1/2 cup of rinsed thor dal in a pressure cooker, pour in 2 cups of water
  • pressure cook for 7 whistles in medium flame
  • After pressure released, open the lid, keep aside for later use

Chopping the Ridge gourd:

  • Firstly, peel off the ridges of ridge gourd and discard
  • Then peel off the skin, (we can reserve this skin for making chutney)
  • chop the ridge gourd into cubes.

Making Ridge gourd Dal:

  • Heat 2 tbsp of oil in a pan, splutter 1 tsp of mustard seeds, and cumin seeds. Add in dry red chilly and green chilly, curry leaves, garlic cloves, shallots. saute well
  • Next, add chopped ridge gourd, salt, saute well
  • And then add 1 tsp of coriander powder and 1 tsp of chilly powder, 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder, just mix for 30 seconds in low flame
  • next add 1 tomato chopped, mix well, cover and cook for 5 minutes
  • then add cooked dal and mix well
  • bring into boil, boil it for few minutes
  • and then turn off the flame, add coriander leaves.
  • Serve with rice with ghee.
