Method
Steam cook and grind the tomato:
- Firstly wash the tomatoes, slit using a knife at the backside of the tomato
- Steam cook for 5 minutes
- Cool it down
- remove the skin
- Blend it into smooth paste
Crush the spices:
- Add coriander seeds, cumin, black pepper into a mortar, grind it into a coarse powder, then add garlic cloves, crush it with other spices. collect it from the mortar, keep aside
For making Rasam
- Heat the oil in pan, splutter mustard seeds. Add curry leaves, green chilly, a pinch of asafoetida
- Pour the ground paste
- Add the crushed spices(cumin, black pepper, coriander seeds, garlic)
- mix well, Add some salt
- Pour 2 cups of water, heat it in medium flame
- when it starts boiling, add sugar. turn off the flame, garnish with coriander leaves
