ellu chutney | sesame seeds chutney

Ingredients
  

For sauteing:
  • 1 tbsp sesame oil
  • 1 tbsp urad dhal
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (white)
  • 2 dry red chilly
  • inch tamarind piece
  • ½ cup coconut (shredded)
For seasoning:
  • 2 tsp sesame oil
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp urad dhal
  • few curry leaves
  • A pinch asafoetida

Method
 

For sauteing:
  1. Firstly, heat 1 tbsp of sesame oil in a pan
  2. Add 1 tbsp of urad dhal, fry it in the oil
  3. next, add 1 tbsp of sesame seeds, fry it for 1 minute in medium flame
  4. add 2 dry red chilly and tamarind, saute
  5. put shredded coconut and turn off the flame, mix well with the heat of the pan
  6. let it cool completely
  7. transfer into the blender jar, blend it smoothly with water
For seasoning:
  1. heat 2 tsp of sesame oil in a pan
  2. splutter mustard seeds
  3. then add urad dhal, wait till it turns golden brown
  4. turn off the flame and add curry leaves and asafoetida
  5. Finally, pour this seasoning mixture over the chutney
