pudhina dhal | mint moong dhal

Ingredients
  

For pressure cooking moong dhal:
  • ½ cup moong dhal
  • 4 garlic cloves (chopped)
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • ¼ tsp ghee
  • cup water
For making mint moong dhal:
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin seeds
  • 1 dry red chilly
  • a pinch asafoetida
  • 1 onion (chopped) medium-sized
  • ½ cup mint leaves (chopped)
  • ½ tsp Kashmiri red chilly
  • salt to taste
  • cup water

Method
 

For pressure cooking moong dhal
  1. In a pressure cooker add washed ½ cup of moong dhal, chopped garlic, ¼ tsp of turmeric powder, ¼ tsp of ghee, 1½ cup of water
  2. Lid on, pressure cook for 3 whistles in medium flame
  3. open the lid after pressure releases and keep aside
For making mint moong dhal:
  1. Heat 1 tbsp of oil splutter ½ tsp of mustard seeds, add ½ tsp of cumin, red chilly and asafoetida
  2. Add chopped onion, saute it till it becomes glossy
  3. Now add chopped 1/2 cup of mint leaves, saute it in low flame for 30 seconds
  4. Then add ½ tsp of Kashmiri red chilly powder, mix well for 30 seconds in low flame
  5. Now add cooked moong dhal, add salt at this stage
  6. pour in 1½ cup of water, mix well bring into a boil, turn off the flame, it is done
