Ingredients Method

Ingredients
  

  • ¼ cup moong dal
  • 1 snake gourd 250 gram
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • 1 spring curry leaves
  • A pinch asafoetida
  • ¼ tsp turmeric powder
  • ½ cup water
  • salt to taste

Method
 

soaking moong dal:
  1. take ¼ cup of moong dal in a bowl, soak it in hot water for 20 minutes
Chopping snake gourd:
  1. scrap the outer skin as much as possible using a knife
  2. remove and discard the seed and fibrous portion
  3. chop the snake gourd into small pieces and keep aside
for stir fry:
  1. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan, splutter ½ tsp of mustard seeds, add ½ tsp of cumin seeds, 3 dry red chilly, and curry leaves
  2. Next, add 1-onion chopped, saute till onion becomes glossy
  3. then add chopped snake gourd, saute
  4. now add ¼ tsp of turmeric powder and salt
  5. pour in 1/2 cup of water
  6. put the lid on, cook in medium flame for 15 minutes (stir at regular intervals)
  7. open the lid, give a mix, and it is done

Stepwise-Picture Recipe for pudalangai poriyal:

soaking moong dal:
Take 1/4 cup of moong dal in a bowl
pour in some hot water to soak, soak it for 20 minutes

After 20 minutes, drain off the water, and keep aside

Chopping the snake gourd:
scrap the outer layer of the snake gourd, cut into half, discard the seeds and fibrous portion
chop the veggie into small and thin pieces
For stir fry:
Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan, splutter ½ tsp of mustard seeds, add ½ tsp of cumin seeds, 3 dry red chilly, and curry leaves
Next, add 1-onion chopped, saute till onion becomes glossy

Now add in chopped snake gourd
then salt

and 1/4 tsp of turmeric powder

a pinch of asafoetida, saute well

After that, add soaked and drained moong dal
pour in 1/2 cup of water
put the lid on, cook it in medium flame for 15 minutes, (stir at regular intervals)

open the lid, put some chopped coriander leaves, give a stir, it done
