Bottle gourd halwa/ Lauki ka Halwa is a dessert, made with bottle gourd, milk, Kova, sugar. It is an easy recipe to make. Also while we selecting the bottle gourd, it is essential to choose non-mature one (tender) that makes the halwa delicious. we are not going to use the inner part of bottle gourd, so that inner portion separately can be used for making bottle gourd juice
Let us see how to make Bottle gourd Halwa/ Lauki ka Halwa.
Bottle gourd Halwa
Ingredients
- ¼ cup ghee
- 1 tbsp cashews
- 1 tbsp pistachio
- 1 tbsp raisins
- 2½ cup shredded bottle gourd
- ½ cup milk
- 1 cup Kova
- ½+1 cup+tbsp sugar
- ¼ tsp cardamom powder
Instructions
For peeling and shredding the bottle gourd
- Wash the bottle gourd, wipe off, peel out the skin
- cut into pieces, shred the out part only using a shredder
For making Halwa
- Heat ¼ cup of ghee in a pan
- Put the cashews and pistachios, fry it, once it is half done add raisins
- Take off the nuts and raisins, keep aside
- In the same pan with remaining ghee, add shredded bottle gourd, saute it for 7 minutes in medium flame
- Pour ½ cup of milk and mix well, boil it for 7 minutes till milk shrinks
- Add 1 cup of Kova, and mix well
- now add sugar (1/2 cup+1tbsp), mix well
- Keep stirring till it reaches the halwa consistency in medium flame
- At one stage, bottle gourd won't stick on the pan, gathers as mass, it will take 12 minutes, after adding sugar
- Now add ¼ tsp of cardamom powder, mix well
- finally, add the nuts and raisins sauteed in ghee, Halwa is ready
