This is curry can be made easier with a pressure cooker within 20 minutes. we should be mindful to soak the dry peas before the night or before 8 hours. This curry is a perfect match for plain rice in lunch. Also with idli and dosa, it tastes delicious. We can add potato wedges along with peas. As it is getting done with a pressure cooker easily, Bachelors can use this recipe.

Sometimes we will feel monotonous if we cook the usual sambar or kara kulambu. Once in a while, we can prepare this kind of masala curries to make difference in cooking. Usually, I used to be mindful of inputting the number of spices in the dish always. This curry is medium spiced and also flavourful curry

Ingredients Method

Ingredients
  

For sauteeing and grinding:
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • 4 garlic
  • 1 inch ginger
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 onion
  • 1 tomato
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 2 tsp Kashmiri red chilly powder
  • ½ cup desiccated coconut dry coconut
For curry:
  • ½ cup dry peas (soaked for 8 hours)
  • ½ tsp garam masala
  • 1½ cup water
  • 1 tbsp coriander leaves
For seasoning/ tadka:
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp cumin
  • few curry leaves

Method
 

For sauteeing and grinding:
  1. Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan, add 4 garlic, 1-inch ginger, 1 onion chopped, few curry leaves
  2. Saute for a while until the onion becomes glossy.
  3. Next, add 1 tomato chopped, saute well until the tomato becomes mushy.
  4. Let this mixture cool down
  5. Transfer this sauteed mixture into a blender jar.
  6. Add 1 tbsp of coriander powder, 2 tsp of Kashmiri red chilly powder, ¼ tsp of turmeric powder, and ½ cup of desiccated coconut
  7. Blend it finely with little water and keep aside.
For making curry:
  1. In a pressure cooker add in ½ cup of dry peas (soaked for 8 hours), and ground paste
  2. Now add 1 tsp of salt and 1½ cup of water
  3. Pressure cook for 4 whistles in medium flame
  4. Open the lid after pressure released completely
  5. Now add ½ tsp of garam masala and salt if required
  6. Bring it to a boil for 30 seconds
  7. now add in the seasoning mixture
    For seasoning/ Tadka:
    Heat 1 tbsp of oil in tadka pan, splutter ½tsp of mustard seeds, ½ tsp of cumin seeds and turn off the flame, add few curry leaves
  8. Garnish with coriander leaves
Stepwise Picture Recipe:

Take 1/2 cup of dry peas, wash it thoroughly and soak it for 8 hours or overnight

For sauteeing and grinding:

Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan, add 4 garlic, 1-inch ginger, 1 onion chopped, few curry leaves. Saute for a while until onion becomes glossy

Next, add 1 tomato chopped, saute well until the tomato becomes mushy.

Turn off the flame. Let this mixture cool down completely
Then transfer it into a mixer jar
Add 1 tbsp of coriander powder, 2 tsp of Kashmiri red chilly powder, ¼ tsp of turmeric powder, and ½ cup of desiccated coconut

Blend finely with little water. and keep it aside
For making curry:

In a pressure cooker add in dry peas (soaked for 8 hours),
and then ground paste
Pour in 1 1/2 cup of water, and add 1 tsp of salt
Pressure cook for 4 whistles in medium flame

Open the lid after pressure released completely. And add 1/2 tsp of garam masala powder and mix

Bring into a boil for 30 seconds and turn off the flame

Add seasoning mixture and mix well

For seasoning/ Tadka:

Garnish with coriander leaves finally.
