In all the manchurian recipe, deep frying is the first step, here also, we are deep frying the flour-coated idli pieces. If you look for manchurian recipe without deep frying, you can air fry the flour-coated idli pieces in an air fryer or in a grill unit or bake till the outer gets crisp. Then follow the usual sauteeing step as given in the recipe.
By increasing the sauce and cornflour mixture into double and cornflour mixture we can make manchurian gravy. for that we need to add 2 tsp of soya sauce, 6 tbsp of tomato sauce, and 2 tsp of the cornflour mixture dissolved in 6 tbsp of water

Ingredients
For deep frying idli:
- 6 idli diced into cubes
- 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
- 1 tbsp cornflour
- 1 tsp ginger garlic paste
- 1 tsp pepper powder
- oil for deep frying
for making idli manchurian:
- 1 tbsp oil
- 1 tsp garlic (finely chopped)
- 1 tsp ginger (finely chopped)
- 1 green chilly (finely chopped)
- 1 onion (medium-sized) chopped into square shaped
- 1/2 cup capsicum chopped into square-shaped (half of one capsicum)
- 1 tsp light soya sauce
- 3 tbsp tomato sauce
- 1 tsp cornflour – mixed in 3 tbsp of water
- ½ tsp pepper powder
- salt to taste
Instructions
for flour mixture:
- To begin with, take 3 tbsp of all-purpose flour and 1 tbsp of cornflour in a bowl.Add 1 tsp ginger garlic paste, 1 tsp of pepper powder, 1/2 tsp of salt
- Mix it with 1/2 cup of water
for frying the idli:
- dice the idli into small pieces (cubes)
- Dip the idli pieces into the flour mixture
- Deep fry the cubes in the oil until the outer layer becomes crisp
- and then take off and keep aside
For making idli manchurian:
- In a pan, heat 1 tbsp of oil, add 1tsp of chopped garlic and 1 tsp of chopped ginger, 1 green chilly chopped. Saute it for a while
- Now add-in onion and capsicum chopped, saute well
- Meanwhile, add 1 tsp of sugar and saute it well
- Next add 1 tsp light soya sauce, 3 tbsp of tomato sauce, give a mix
- In a bowl, add 1 tsp of cornflour and 3 tbsp of water, mix wellPour this mixture in the pan, saute it medium flame until it becomes creamy.
- Now add fried idli pieces, 1/2 tsp of pepper powder, and adjust with salt
- Then add 2 tbsp of chopped spring onion and mix well. And it is done.
