sorakaya vadalu | bottle gourd vada, Traditional vada recipe of Andhra Pradesh is called as sorakaya vadalu. This vada made up of bottle gourd, rice flour along with spices like ginger, green chilly, jeera, etc. These are thin vadas crispy at the outer layer. Ginger and green chilly enhances the taste of vada. so the vada tastes yummy.

Ingredients Method

Ingredients
  

  • 1 cup shredded bottle gourd (half portion of a bottle gourd)
  • 1 cup rice flour
  • 1 onion (finely chopped) medium-sized
  • 1 tbsp ginger (finely chopped)
  • 3 green chilly (finely chopped)
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • few curry leaves (finely chopped)
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • salt to taste
  • oil for deep frying

Method
 

Shredding bottle gourd:
  1. firstly peel off the bottle gourd
  2. remove the seed portion from it
  3. and then shred the bottle gourd and keep aside
For vada mixture:
  1. In a mixing bowl, take 1 cup of shredded bottle gourd, and then add r1 cup of rice flour
  2. Next, add finely chopped onion, ginger, coriander, green chilly, curry leaves.
  3. Then add 1 tsp of cumin and salt to taste
  4. Firstly mix well
  5. Next, add 1 or 2 tbsp of water and mix, the vada mixture is ready
Patting the vadas:
  1. Take polythene paper or greaseproof paper (parchment paper)
  2. apply a few drops of oil over it
  3. Get a small portion from the vada mixture, make a perfect ball
  4. place over the oil applied greaseproof paper (parchment paper) or polythene paper
  5. pat it flat and round
Deep-frying:
  1. Heat the oil in a pan, finally fry the vadas in medium flame till it turns golden brown
Stepwise picture recipe for sorakaya vadalu | bottle gourd vada:

First of all, In a mixing bowl take 1 cup of shredded bottle gourd and 1 cup rice flour

Put all the ingredients I have mentioned in the picture
Note: everything must be finely chopped

now pour 1 or 2 tbsp of water, mix with our hands

Meanwhile, take greaseproof paper or polythene paper or plantain leaf

apply a few drops of oil

Take a small portion from the vada mixture, make a perfect ball, place it over the sheet

pat it into flat and round perfectly

make a hole at the center gently, place all the vadas like this, therefore you can easily take and fry it

heat the oil in a pan, deep fry the patties in medium flame

fry it to a golden brown

shredding bottle gourd:
Here I have taken half a portion of a bottle gourd, firstly peel off
secondly, cut it into half vertically
clear off the inner fibrous part using a knife carefully
grate it using a grater, now you can use it for vada dough preparation
Note:
  • It is an instant vada recipe, so that can be made at any time because it doesn’t need soaking time.
  • Importantly the ingredients that we are adding into the vada batter like onion, ginger and green chilly, etc, must be finely chopped
  • While grating bottle gourd, use medium-size hole side to grate, so that, it is easy to pat the vadas,
