Making rasam is an easy job, this would be mildly spiced, enriched with cumin and pepper flavor. tomato rasam | tomato charu. The main ingredients in all types of rasam are chilly, cumin, black pepper. Most of the kids like this than any other rice varieties. This will increase the digestion as well.

Ingredients Method

Ingredients
  

  • 250 gram Tomato
For crushing the spices
  • 1 tsp cumin
  • 1 tsp pepper
  • ½ tsp coriander seeds
  • 2 garlic cloves
for making rasam
  • 1 tbsp oil
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • few curry leaves
  • 1 green chilly
  • A pinch Asafoetida
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 tsp sugar
  • 2 tbsp coriander leaves (finely chopped)
  • salt to taste

Method
 

Steam cook and grind the tomato:
  1. Firstly wash the tomatoes, slit using a knife at the backside of the tomato
  2. Steam cook for 5 minutes
  3. Cool it down
  4. remove the skin
  5. Blend it into smooth paste
Crush the spices:
  1. Add coriander seeds, cumin, black pepper into a mortar, grind it into a coarse powder, then add garlic cloves, crush it with other spices. collect it from the mortar, keep aside
For making Rasam
  1. Heat the oil in pan, splutter mustard seeds. Add curry leaves, green chilly, a pinch of asafoetida
  2. Pour the ground paste
  3. Add the crushed spices(cumin, black pepper, coriander seeds, garlic)
  4. mix well, Add some salt
  5. Pour 2 cups of water, heat it in medium flame
  6. when it starts boiling, add sugar. turn off the flame, garnish with coriander leaves

Stepwise picture recipe:

First of all, wash the tomatoes, slit the skin like this

Secondly, Steam cook it for 5 minutes

After it got cooled, remove the skin

Blend into a smooth paste

First, grind the coriander seeds, cumin pepper together into a coarse powder, then add garlic, crush it with it, collect it from the mortar, keep them aside

Heat the oil, splutter mustard seeds, add curry leaves, green chilly, asafoetida, (keep the flame low in this step to avoid scorching)

Pour the tomato ground paste, and 1 tbsp of tamarind extract, mix well
add the crushed spice powder, give it a mix
And now, Pour in 2 cups of water
Add salt as per taste

give a mix, heat it in medium heat till it reaches the boiling point

When the rasam starts to boil add sugar and switch off the flame

finally, garnish with coriander leaves, It is done

Note:
  • Furthermore, taking well-riped tomatoes for making this rasam tasty.
  • this recipe will give you medium spiced rasam, so that adjust the spice level if you want to increase or decrease
  • And also, Making rasam powder in large quantity, and preserving it in an airtight container, making the process easy.
