It is the breakfast recipe in Friday morning in most of the south indian houses, Ven pongal with Tiffin sambar makes the perfect combination. As this combo contains carb, protein and fibre, soit is a highly nutritious brekfast as well as whole diet.
Ven Pongal
Ingredients
- 1 tsp ghee (for roasting dhal)
- 1 tbsp finely chopped ginger
- 1 cup raw rice
- ¼ cup Moong dhal
- 4 cups water
- 1 tsp pepper powder
For seasoning:
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp pepper
- 8 cashew nuts
- 1/2 tsp asafoetida
- few curry leaves
Instructions
- wash the rice and moong dhal separately, drain all the water completely
- Heat 1 tsp of ghee in pressure cooker
- Add the moon dhal, roast it for 5 minutes till you get the nice aroma
- Now add the rice, and 4 cups of water
- Cover the lid, pressure cook for 5 whistles
- After pressure got released, open the lid. Add pepper powder and give it a mix
For seasoning:
- Heat the ghee in a seasoning pan, add pepper, cumin, cashews, and then turn off the flame. then add curry leaves and asafoetida
- Pour it over the Pongal we prepared, Now the Pongal is ready

You can serve with sambar and chutney. (tiffin sambar will be good for this Pongal).
