It is a purely south Indian dish. Usually, it is prepared for breakfast. By comparing with usual kara pongal, this aval kara pongal remains light. This recipe makes the best use of aval at our house. This can be served with sambar or chutney as a side dish.

Ingredients
- 1 cup aval medium
- 2 tbsp Moong dal
- 2 tbsp ghee
- 2 cup water
For seasoning:
- 1 tbsp ghee
- 1 tbsp cashews
- 1 inch ginger
- 2 green chilly
- 1 tsp cumin
- 1 tsp peppercorns
- pinch asafoetida
- few curry leaves
Instructions
cooking moong dal:
- Firstly, take 2 tbsp of moong dal in a pressure cooker, ¾ cup of water, 1/4 tsp of gheePressure cook it for 6 whistles, after pressure is released open the lid, and set it aside for later use.
Making aval kara pongal:
- secondly, Take 2 tbsp of ghee in a pan, put 1 cup of aval, and roast it in medium flame until the aval puff up
- Next, add 2 cups of water, and boil it in medium flame
- once the water content evaporates, turn off the flame. add salt at this stage.
seasoning:
- Heat 1 tbsp of ghee, roast 1 tbsp of cashews, and add cumin, peppercorns, ginger, and green chili. fry it for a few seconds.and add curry leaves and a pinch of asafoetida.
