Bombay Karachi Halwa is a easy to make recipe. The main ingredient is cornflour. Anytime we can make this halwa because the cornflour will be available all-time at home. Adding color is entirely your choice; I have added beetroot extract. We have seen this halwa in the shop in a variety of colors. That was good treat for eyes as well as our taste buds. I have presented this recipe here with simple steps so we can prepare it at home any time we need it.

Bombay Karachi halwa
Ingredients
- ½ cup cornflour
- 1½ cup sugar
- ¼ cup ghee
- 2 tbsp cashews (silvered)
- 1+1 cup water (icup for dissolving cornflour, 1 cup for dissolving the sugar)
- 100 gm beetroot
- ¼ tsp cardamom powder
- ½ tbsp lemon juice
Instructions
Preparing Beetroot extract:
- Take the chopped beetroot in a blender, add 1/2 cup of water, blend it nicely
- strain the ground paste, keep the beetroot extract for the use
Preparing Halwa:
- Firstly, grease a container with ghee and keep it ready
- Take the ½ cup of cornflour in a mixing bowl, add 1 cup of water, mix well
- Then add 1 cup of beetroot extract, mix well and keep aside
- Take 1 cup of water and 1½ cup of sugar in a pan, heat it
- Bring this mixture to a boil
- Add beetroot cornflour mixture by stirring
- Mix well
- Add ½ tbsp of lemon juice, mix well
- Add ghee in a regular intervals, (3to 4 times)
- Keep stirring in low to medium flame
- At a stage, the halwa, leaves the pan, (becoming nonsticky with the pan) and rolls up into a mass
- Add cashews and cardamom powder, mix well
- Pour this Halwa into greased pan
- Allow it rest for 30 minutes
- Then cut into pieces
Stepwise Picture Recipe:
For beetroot extract, blend the beetroot pieces with 1/2 cup of water, then strain it
Note:
- some kids won’t eat excess sugar, for them, you can reduce the sugar into 1 cup or 11/4 cup
