dal recipe moong | Beans poricha kootu is a side dish for rice. It is a combination of dhal, veggie, and spices with masala which makes the dhal so delicious. Making kootu in coconut oil increases the flavor. Here I have added beans chopped in inch length, And also I used moong dhal

The Tamil name poricha means fried, The ingredients which we grind are fried or sauteed before grinding. You could fond the difference between normal and poricha kootu in the increase in flavor in the dish (Beans poricha kootu)

Alternatives:

You can use any lentils of your choice like thor dhal or channa dhal

this one we can use it as a side dish for rice like other curry

Ingredients for dal recipe moong | beans poricha kootu:

Oil for kootu: Kootu is a thick dal combined with some vegetables. Usually, kootu used to prepare with coconut oil, because coconut oil gives flavor to the dish. But we can use other oil like groundnut oil, sesame oil, or ghee for tempering. In this recipe, I have used coconut oil.

Using dal: And also when coming to the dal, we can use thor dal, chana dal, split moong dal for making kootu, Here (Beans poricha kootu)I have used split moong dal for this dish.

Vegetables for kootu: There is a large number of vegetables we can use it for kootu. When we look at the kootu recipes as a round-up, all the kootu dishes prepared with the vegetables grown from climbers and creepers. Like pumpkin, chayote (chow chow), snake gourd, ridge gourd, bottle gourd, beans, flat beans, etc. Apart from this, spinach varieties also used for making kootu

Ingredients Method

Ingredients
  

For cooking Dhal:
  • 1/2 cup Moong dhal
  • 11/2 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp ghee/oil
For Roasting and Grinding:
  • 1 tsp coconut oil
  • 1 tsp coriander seeds
  • 2 tsp urad dhal
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 4 dry red chilly
  • ¼ cup shredded coconut
To make kootu:
  • 1 tbsp coconut oil
  • ½ tsp mustard seeds
  • ½ tsp urad dhal
  • few curry leaves
  • ½ tsp asafoetida
  • ½ tbsp ginger (finely chopped)
  • 200 gm beans chopped 1½ cup
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste

Method
 

For cooking Dhal:
  1. Rinse dhal well
  2. Add it into a pressure cooker with little ghee or oil
  3. cover the lid, pressure cook for 3 whistles in medium flame
For roasting and Grinding:
  1. Heat the oil in a pan, add 1 tsp coriander seeds, 2 tsp urad dhal, 1 tsp cumin, and 4 red chilis
  2. saute it for 4 minutes
  3. Add ¼ cup of coconut shredded
  4. saute it for 5 minutes
  5. turn off the flame, allow it to cool
  6. Transfer the mixture into a blender jar, add ¼ tsp pepper blend it into a smooth paste with little water
For making kootu:
  1. Heat 1 tbsp of coconut oil in a pan, add mustard seeds, urad dhal, and curry leaves
  2. put chopped ginger, saute it for a while
  3. Add chopped beans and saute
  4. Sprinkle salt and pepper
  5. pour 1 cup of water cover and cook it for 10 minutes for the beans to cook
  6. open the lid add in cooked dhal and ground paste and mix well
  7. Bring into aboil, now the beans kootu is ready

For Roasting and Grinding:

Heat 1 tsp of coconut oil in a pan add-in 1 tsp of coriander seeds, 2 tsp of urad dhal, 1 tsp of cumin, and 4 red chilis, just fry this for few minutes in medium flame

Add ¼ cup of coconut shredded, saute it for 5 minutes in medium flame (dal recipe moong | Beans poricha kootu)

After that, turn off the flame, Allow the mixture to cool

After it got cool down, Transfer the mixture to a blender jar, add-in ¼ tsp of pepper

Blend into smooth paste and keep aside for later use.

For making dal recipe moong | Beans poricha kootu:

Heat 1 tbsp of oil in a pan, splutter mustard seeds, urad dhal, curry leaves, and ginger and also asafoetida, just toss the ginger for a minute

Next, Put chopped beans

And then, Add salt and turmeric and saute for 5 minutes

after sauteed the beans well, Pour a cup of water

Cover and cook for 10 minutes

open the lid, Add cooked dhal

Now add the ground paste and mix well

finally Bring into boil and turn off the flame

Now the Beans poricha kootu is ready to serve

Note:

If you have dry coconut, you can add it here when you grind the ingredients instead of fresh coconut. We need not saute the dry coconut in the oil, we can straight away add it to blending.
