healthy indian food | methi dal recipe | fenugreek leaves dal recipe, one of the most delicious, highly nutritious dish. It is a comforting food for lunch with steaming hot rice. And also it is nicely pairs with rotis, cumin rice. I have given the simple version of methi dal after made many trials. I hope you too like the flavor of this methi dal. This dal is made with toor dal, but you can also make this dish with moong dal too. We all know the medicinal values and health benefits of fenugreek leaves. When it is paired with dal, it would be a protien packed dish. Dal is the most used dish in Indian homes. So it is easy to make use of fenugreek leaves often in our diet.

Ingredients
  

For boiling dal:

  • ½ cup toor dal
  • 2 cup water
  • ½ tsp ghee

Making methi dal:

  • 2 tbsp ghee
  • 1 tsp mustard seeds
  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 green chilli
  • 1 onion (chopped)
  • 2 big garlic cloves (chopped)
  • 1 cup methi leaves (fenugreek leaves) (tightly packed) (1 bunch)
  • ½ tsp turmeric powder
  • salt to taste

Instructions
 

For boiling dal:

  • take washed toor dal in a pressure cooker, put ½ tsp of ghee, 2 cups of water
  • Pressure cook it for 7 whistles
  • after pressure released, open the lid, mash it with ladle, keep aside for later use.

Making methi dal:

  • In a pan, heat 2 tbsp of ghee, crackle 1 tsp of mustard seeds, 1 tsp of cumin seeds.
  • Put 2 green chilli (sllit), add chopped onion and garlic, saute until onion becomes translucent
  • Now add fenugreek leaves, add turmeric powder, and salt. saute it for 1 minute
    add ½ cup of water, boil for 5 minutes
  • Next, add cooked dal, adjust the consistency with water and add salt. and boil it for 5 minutes and then turn off the flame

Stepwise Picture Recipe:

Pressure cooking dal:

After pressure is released, open the lid, mash the dal with a ladle or hand blender

Making methi dal:

Heat 2 tbsp of ghee in a pan

crackle 1 tsp of mustard seeds and 1 tsp of cumin seeds. Put green chilly (slit), and 2 garlic cloves chopped. saute
Put chopped onion
saute until slight brown
Put fenugreek leaves, 1/2 tsp turmeric powder, and salt. saute for 1 min
saute for 1 min
Pour 1/2 cup of water, boil in medium flame for 5 minutes
Put cooked dal

Adjust the consistency with water, and add salt

Serve with hot rice.
