Because sesame seeds contain a lot of calcium and have protein, also a good source of copper, manganese, zinc. And an important thing in sesame seeds is, it contains substances (lignans) called sesamin and sesamolin, these two have the property to combat harmful free radicals in the body, so it has anticancer property in it.

Ingredients
For sauteing:
- 1 tbsp sesame oil
- 1 tbsp urad dhal
- 1 tbsp sesame seeds (white)
- 2 dry red chilly
- 1½ inch tamarind piece
- ½ cup coconut (shredded)
For seasoning:
- 2 tsp sesame oil
- ½ tsp mustard seeds
- ½ tsp urad dhal
- few curry leaves
- A pinch asafoetida
Instructions
For sauteing:
- Firstly, heat 1 tbsp of sesame oil in a pan
- Add 1 tbsp of urad dhal, fry it in the oil
- next, add 1 tbsp of sesame seeds, fry it for 1 minute in medium flame
- add 2 dry red chilly and tamarind, saute
- put shredded coconut and turn off the flame, mix well with the heat of the pan
- let it cool completely
- transfer into the blender jar, blend it smoothly with water
For seasoning:
- heat 2 tsp of sesame oil in a pan
- splutter mustard seeds
- then add urad dhal, wait till it turns golden brown
- turn off the flame and add curry leaves and asafoetida
- Finally, pour this seasoning mixture over the chutney

Note:
- Instead of making thick, make thin chutney by adding enough water. because thin chutney texture would taste good, and also thin ellu chutney nicely goes with dosa varieties.
- Unlike other coconut chutney, the leftover chutney can be stored in the refrigerator, because it won’t get spoiled easily like other chutney
- don’t get curious about the amount of chilly I used for this chutney if you are a mild spice eater, it does need 2 big red chillies. the spiciness of red chillies balanced by sesame seeds and tamarind well
- while roasting urad dhal make sure the dhal roasted till it becomes golden brown, similarly the sesame seeds should splutter and get slightly fluffy as well that means it is roasted well
